TikTok Ads Account Requirements: What You Need Before Your Account Is Approved (2026)

Mara Lindqvist Mara Lindqvist Published on September 17, 2026 · inGuides

To open a TikTok ads account you need a company website, the business details TikTok asks for at signup (country or region, industry, legal business name, time zone, currency, contact details), billing and payment information for your market, and, where your country or industry requires it, business verification and qualifying documents. The account is then reviewed. TikTok says most reviews take under 24 hours, and ads will not run until the account is approved.

This guide lists those requirements as TikTok's own help center states them: the articles on setting up a TikTok Ads Manager account, required account information, the account review checklist, account approval FAQs, business verification and qualifying documents, as published in September 2026. For the order to set things up in, see our TikTok ads account setup guide.

Account review and Documents

1. Business information at signup

TikTok's setup article for self-serve advertisers lists the details you give when creating the advertiser account, and why each matters:

  • Country or region. TikTok uses it to apply local regulations and requirements.
  • Industry. Used for more relevant advertising tips.
  • Legal business name. Used to verify the business for legal and billing purposes. TikTok warns that if it does not match the actual name of your business, the account may not be approved and other TikTok for Business tools may be harder to access.
  • Time zone. Reporting and scheduling sync to it.
  • Phone number. TikTok uses it to contact you about optimizing your ads.
  • Currency. Financial and payment information is shown in it.

Get these right the first time. TikTok's article on required information says time zone, region, business name and currency cannot be edited once the ad account has been created, and points you to customer support for help with changes. Our guide to ad account time zone covers what the time zone controls.

If you are not a self-serve customer, TikTok says to contact your client service team or account manager instead of following these steps.

2. A company website

This is the requirement that most often blocks approval. TikTok's approval FAQ says it can only approve a TikTok For Business account if there is an official website. A social media profile is not accepted as a substitute, even if the business uses one as its main page.

According to TikTok's account review checklist, the website you add to Account Setup should:

  • use a properly formatted URL, starting with http:// or https://,
  • work properly and be optimized for mobile,
  • not be under construction or a 404 page,
  • clearly promote a product, service or brand,
  • comply with local policies on payment, privacy and refunds,
  • not point to a third-party marketplace, a personal website, or an unverified social media account,
  • not show violent or illegal content,
  • not require visitors to give personal information or download anything to see the content,
  • not feature unlicensed products or logos.

The approval FAQ adds landing page reasons that lead to rejection, such as no privacy policy, a page that is not mobile-optimized, or language that does not fit the country or region you target. It also says the promotion link must be valid and relevant to what you promote, and the account will not be approved if TikTok cannot verify the URL.

Changing the website URL later triggers a new account review.

3. Location, industry and account name

The review checklist says TikTok checks that your business is:

  • located in a region supported by TikTok Ads Manager (TikTok's Placements and Available Locations page has the list), and
  • permitted to advertise its products in your market on TikTok (TikTok's Advertising Policies on Industry Entry list what cannot be promoted where).

It also checks that the account and business name contain no offensive language or random strings of characters.

4. Qualifying documents for certain industries and markets

TikTok says you may need to submit qualifying documents such as a business license when you create an ad account, and specific industry documents depending on your country and industry. Its example is a Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) license to advertise financial services in the United Arab Emirates.

Where these are required, the review checklist says TikTok checks that you can provide official documents, and that the name on them matches the account's business name and company website.

To add them: open your ad account, click your profile image, go to Account Info under Account Settings, then Documents.

5. Business verification

TikTok asks advertisers to verify business information when they create an ad account, and says verification status may affect your ability to post ads. It is also required once ad spend reaches a threshold set for your market. TikTok notifies you with a deadline by email, inbox message, banner or pop-up, and completing verification by that deadline keeps ads running. Verifying a Business Center also verifies the ad accounts under it.

Document rules from TikTok's business verification article:

  • File formats: JPEG, JPG, PNG or PDF, up to 10MB.
  • All four corners visible, text legible, business license or certificate number clearly shown.
  • Color documents, except for the United States, China and Australia.
  • Within the validity period and not expiring within the next 30 days.
  • No copies of copies, and no third-party watermarks.
  • You must meet the minimum legal age to verify a business in your jurisdiction. TikTok says this varies by country under local rules.
  • The information you enter must match the uploaded document.

A standalone ad account is verified in TikTok Ads Manager under Tools, Account setting, My accounts, Business Verification. A Business Center admin can verify in Business Center under Verification, and TikTok says that review can take up to two business days. TikTok also warns that submitting false or misleading information to get around review is prohibited and can lead to enforcement on the account.

6. Billing and payment

After registering, you provide billing and payment information. TikTok says the exact fields depend on your country and may include a billing address and tax information. You then choose a payment method from those supported in your region. Invalid business or tax information is one of the reasons TikTok lists for an account not being approved.

After you submit: review, rejection and appeal

  • Timing. Most account reviews finish in under 24 hours. TikTok emails you the result, and the status is on the Account Setup page. You can build campaigns meanwhile, but ads will not run until approval.
  • Common reasons for rejection. TikTok lists an invalid website URL, additional documents being required, and invalid business or tax information.
  • Request a review after fixing it. Go to Account Setup, find the Account Status module and click Request Review. Editing account information also starts a new review automatically.
  • Appeal if you believe the decision is wrong. In Account Status, open Advanced Settings, click Appeal, and choose Account Review in customer support. The approval FAQ says to raise the ticket within 3 working days.

If an approved account is later suspended, that is a different process; see TikTok ads account suspended.

Pre-submission checklist

  • Legal business name typed exactly as on your registration documents.
  • Country or region, time zone and currency checked, since they cannot be edited later.
  • Official website live, mobile-friendly, with privacy, payment and refund information, and no forms or downloads blocking access.
  • Website domain and business name consistent with your documents.
  • Industry documents ready if your market or industry needs them.
  • Verification documents in color, all corners visible, valid for more than 30 days, under 10MB.
  • Billing address and tax details ready for your country.
  • A payment method supported in your region.

Where AdBegin fits

Teams that open TikTok accounts for several brands or markets have to keep business details, documents and the people with access consistent across all of them. AdBegin is an ad workspace that keeps accounts, access and working environments organized as one set. It does not submit anything to TikTok for you and has no influence on TikTok's account review.

FAQ

What do I need to create a TikTok ads account?

An email address or phone number, your business country or region, industry, legal business name, time zone, phone number and currency, a company website, billing and tax information for your country, and a supported payment method. Depending on your market and industry, you may also need business verification and qualifying documents.

Do I need a website to advertise on TikTok?

Yes. TikTok says it can only approve a TikTok For Business account if there is an official website, and a social media profile does not count as one.

How long does TikTok ads account approval take?

TikTok says most account reviews take less than 24 hours. You are notified by email, and you can also check the status on the Account Setup page.

Can I change my TikTok ad account details after creating it?

Time zone, region, business name and currency cannot be edited after the ad account is created. The website URL can be updated on Account Setup, which starts a new account review.

What documents does TikTok business verification accept?

Color JPEG, JPG, PNG or PDF files up to 10MB, with all four corners visible, within their validity period and not expiring in the next 30 days, and with no copies of copies or third-party watermarks. The accepted document types vary by country or region, and TikTok keeps a separate list for each.

The short version

A TikTok ads account needs an official, working website, accurate business details that match your documents, billing and tax information for your country, and a supported payment method. Some markets and industries also require qualifying documents, and business verification is required at signup or once spend passes your market's threshold. Check time zone, region, business name and currency before you submit, because they cannot be edited afterwards. Most reviews finish within 24 hours, and a rejected account can be fixed and sent back for review, or appealed within 3 working days.
